Food Markets – Britain versus Europe

It is such a shame that unless you are visiting a dedicated farmers market, your average British town’s weekly market is pretty uninspiring these days.  I don’t know what it is… well actually I do; it’s displaying fruit and veg in those damn plastic bowls!

What makes the average market trader in the U.K. think that putting three parsnips in a plastic bowl will lure people into wanting to buy them?UK Versus European Food Markets

Take for example the fruit below.  Would it not be more temping if all different fruits were naturally sitting on to of each other, either in a box or just on the table top?

Let’s go to Spain..  and look still no plastic bowls!

The attraction of produce on a market stall is in how naturally beautiful it looks.  I know supermarkets have taken a lot of business from our traditional markets, but surely that should be the inspiration?

However, I would love to think that there are probably a few gems of weekly markets around Britain.  If you know where they are, please leave a comment below!
